St. Augustine Hunger Center Food Drive – 2013

Ohio law firm steps up to fight hunger

Elk & Elk will be at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church and Hunger Center to help restock the pantry on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. For the 9th year, we will be teaming up with Mark “Munch” Bishop from ESPN Cleveland, collecting monetary and food donations. As in years past, Elk & Elk will be donating hundreds of turkeys for their Thanksgiving feast.

This year, St. Augustine’s Hunger Center will serve over 17,000 Thanksgiving meals to those in need, with thousands being delivered to shut-ins – and they need your help. Please join us as we fight hunger with Father McNulty and Sister Corita Ambro, the center’s director.

The event will be broadcast live on ESPN Cleveland, 850 WKNR from 4:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.; however, donations can be dropped off throughout the day. So, load up your car, minivan, or truck and head over to St. Augustine, located at 2486 on West 14th street in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, across from Lincoln Park. You don’t even have to get out of your vehicle, as our firm’s partners and many of our associates and support staff, along with their families, will be on hand with other volunteers to unload any items you wish to contribute.

Everyone can help

St. Augustine’s receives no government subsidies, relying on donations by corporations and individuals like you. Your contributions not only provide meals, but also allow the Center to address other needs of the poor and the homeless such as clothing, emergency funding for rent and utilities, furniture, and appliances. The parish also advocates for those poor seeking medical help. You can help in a variety of ways.

Thanksgiving

Holiday items are still needed, such as potatoes, onions, canned gravy, cornbread mix, canned vegetables, bread, and cranberry sauce. Pastries and other baked goods are also appreciated.

Stock the Pantry

Staples for throughout the year are always welcome. Favorites include tuna fish, canned soup, rice, mac & cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, hot and cold cereal, bread, peanut butter and jelly.

Monetary donations

On the day of the food drive, the center will accept monetary donations in cash or by check. If you prefer to donate by credit card, a secure server is available on their website.

Non-food items

The Center is always looking for personal hygiene products, which they package for their clients. There is a need for razors, pocket tissue packs, travel size toothpaste and toothbrushes, small packs of baby wipes, deodorant, travel size mouthwash and dental floss.

Volunteers

The Hunger Center needs drivers to deliver meals throughout the greater Cleveland area. Please call 216-781-5530 for more information.

About the Center

St. Augustine Hunger Center is an outgrowth of the ministry and service of St. Augustine Church. The parish has had a long history of service since its inception in 1860, when it welcomed an impoverished immigrant community. The Hunger Center operates year-round, staffed entirely by volunteers. Every day, they provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for hundreds of people in our community. We hope to see you there! (Click HERE for directions.)
