Is looking good worth the risk to your kids?

Most people have a daily routine that involves the use of many cosmetic products, such as soap, hair products, nail polish, deodorant, makeup, fragrance, and other products. However, when children are around, combining hygiene with their natural curiosity can be a dangerous combination.
Most parents take safety precautions by plugging electrical outlets and blocking falling hazards. However, it is normal for children to explore their world through their senses. And all too often, children suffer injuries due to the availability of cosmetics products within the home.
Your beauty products could harm your children
Between 1999 and 2015, seven children reportedly lost their lives due to cosmetics products. And between 2002 and 2016, over 64,000 children under age five experienced a cosmetic-related injury.
When you change your nail polish, wash your face or style your hair, you may not consider the products you use to spruce up your appearance as dangers to your kids. But in addition to fragrances, the most common injuries from cosmetics products include those used for:
- Nails
- Hair
- Skin
More often than not, children swallow these products to which they should not have access. And substances such as permanent solution and hair relaxers can result in chemical burns and hospitalization.
Naturally, you should do your best to keep potentially dangerous substances locked up or out of your children’s reach. However, depending on the situation, if your children access a product which is not childproof or lacks an adequate warning label, you may want to explore your options in holding a manufacturer accountable for your children’s injuries.
