If you’re traveling near the Cedar and Brainard Roads exit off I-271, be prepared for some upcoming traffic changes. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will begin construction on the northbound exit ramp. This work will involve lane shifts and periodic closures, which are expected to last through August. The entire project is scheduled for completion by mid-October 2026.
What’s Changing
This construction project aims to enhance safety and reduce traffic congestion at one of the area’s more challenging exits. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the current ramp often experiences backups, leading to hazardous conditions and necessitating frequent assistance from local safety personnel in Lyndhurst and Beachwood.
To address these issues, the project will:
- Extend the existing ramp
- Add a second exit lane to prevent traffic from spilling back onto I-271
- Reconfigure express lane crossover ramps to give drivers more space to merge across lanes safely
The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to reverse the direction of certain express lane ramps near Fairmount Boulevard starting April 28. As part of this update, the crossover ramps at Fairmount will be closed.
These changes aim to reduce last-minute lane changes, crashes, and delays that have become common in this area. As always, please use caution when driving through construction zones, and allow extra travel time if you’re heading to our Mayfield Heights office at 6105 Parkland Blvd. or passing through the area!
