A Year of Giving: Learn more about the causes we supported in 2017

Elk & Elk is proud to be an active member of our Ohio community. Read on to learn more about a few of the causes our firm supported in 2017 and how you can join us in making a difference in the coming year.

Get That Weak Stuff Out of Here!

Since launching the “Get That Weak Stuff Out of Here!” campaign during the 2015-16 season, Elk & Elk and the Cleveland Cavaliers have teamed up with Cleveland Clinic Children’s to block pediatric cancer. The firm donates $100 for every shot blocked by the team, generating nearly $100,000 to date in support of life-changing research at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. Fans are encouraged to join the fight by making a donation.

St. Augustine Hunger Center

St. Augustine Hunger Center serves thousands of meals to those in need throughout the Greater Cleveland community during the holiday season. Each year, Elk & Elk team members come together to volunteer and prepare meals at the Center’s annual food drive. Watch our recap video from the 2017 event, and contact St. Augustine to learn how you can donate or get involved.

Military & Veterans

Elk & Elk is proud to honor our nation’s heroes through our support of initiatives benefitting active military members and veterans. We recently joined the Cleveland Browns and USO of Northern Ohio in assembling care packages for our troops during a firm-sponsored #give10 event. Elk & Elk’s new partnership with the Columbus Blue Jackets is heavily focused on this cause as well. Visit cbj.co/militaryhome17 for more information about our Military Salutes and Military Honor Row programs.

The Gathering Place

The Gathering Place is a community-based cancer support center that offers a wide variety of free programs and services to address the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of individuals and families coping with cancer. Partner Marilena DiSilvio serves on the board of directors, and Elk & Elk sponsors Race for The Place each year. Visit touchedbycancer.org to learn more about The Gathering Place or make a donation.

How you can make a difference in 2018:

Making a financial contribution and volunteering your time are often the best ways to show your support for charity or nonprofit organizations. Money doesn’t take up physical space and can be redirected to the areas of the operation where they’re most needed. Many organizations rely on the work of volunteers and are constantly looking for generous people who are willing to lend a hand.

If you’re interested in supporting a specific cause, do a little research and contact organizations directly to learn more about their needs and preferences. Always check resources like Charity Navigator or Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance before making a donation to avoid scams. Taking these simple steps can help you make the biggest impact with your contributions.
