Why is abuse present in Nursing Homes?

Why is abuse present in Nursing Homes?
The tragic truth is that the nursing home industry, for the most part, behaves as just that: an industry that puts profits ahead of people.  They house our elderly loved ones at the lowest cost possible.

This means:

  • Minimal qualifications
  • Inadequate staffing
  • Insufficient training
  • Low wages and high turnover

The ultimate result is serious and even life-threatening problems for nursing home residents: weight loss, failure to treat pressure sores or manage pain effectively, hospitalization, malnutrition, dehydration and even starvation.

Each certified Nursing Assistant is typically responsible for 15-30 residents per 8 hour shift. This means at best an average of only a half hour per resident.

The nursing home litigation attorneys at Elk & Elk have become experts in the litigation of cases involving nursing home abuse, nursing home neglect and nursing home negligence, and have the knowledge, experience, and resources to hold nursing homes accountable for the harm they cause to the elderly and their families. Elk & Elk is dedicated to teaching nursing home operators that they cannot afford to provide substandard care or allow the abuse or neglect of their patients.
