Injured by Yaz birth control? You need a qualified drug recall attorney.

Yaz Linked to Blood Clots, Heart Attack and Stroke

Yaz(and in a slightly altered form, Yasmine) is a relatively new oral birth control medication billed as more than just a pill to ward off unwanted pregnancies. It packs the added benefits of treating moderate acne and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome called premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD. But, as research and an unfortunate number of victims have found, it also packs the potential for a host of serious, even life-threatening side effects, including blood clots, heart attack and stroke. As a result, Elk & Elk’s injury lawyers are investigating injury claims tied to Yaz, as well as other drug recalls.

If you or someone you know has suffered symptoms related to the use of Yaz, a drug recall attorney at Elk & Elk can help you make sure your rights are protected and that you claim whatever compensation you deserve for pain and suffering, medical bills, missed work and any other injury-related losses. Our injury lawyers have the experience, the resources and the mettle to walk into a negotiation, a mediation and, if need be, a courtroom to make sure injury victims – whether by drug recalls, car accidents, medical malpractice or another cause – get the settlements or verdicts they deserve.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in October 2008 took action against drug manufacturer Bayer for using deceptive advertising related to the birth control preparation, setting off a virtual tidal wave of complaints linked to what Bayer claimed the pill could do.

As drug recalls go, the Yaz story is an especially damaging one because Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. - the drug’s manufacturer - before being regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in a recent mandate, marketed Yaz in a way which minimized these very serious side effects, misleading millions of consumers about the safety of this “miracle pill.” To us injury lawyers here at Elk & Elk, that’s some negligent marketing.

Among the drug’s risks are severe allergic reactions, chest pain or heaviness, confusion, coughing of blood, fainting and irregular heartbeat, Bayer’s Yaz Web site shows. The FDA contents, however, that the company’s statement about these and other side effects is “minimized by distracting visuals, numerous scene changes and other competing modalities such as the background music which combine to interfere with the presentation of the risk information.”

For more information about the FDA’s warning letter to Bayer, Yaz and other drug-related issues and developments, visit the FDA’s Web site at www.fda.gov and for a more comprehensive look at the issues surrounding Yaz and their legal implications, including a free, no-obligation case evaluation.
