Ohio defective product attorneys investigating the DePuy Pinnacle system's problems
The medical device recall attorneys at Elk & Elk are investigating a rash of complaints among recipients of the Pinnacle Hip Replacement manufactured by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy.
This recent wave of complaints related to DePuy’s Pinnacle hip replacement product comes on the heels of an FDA warning and subsequent recall of another of DePuy's artificial hip replacements: The ASR Hip Resurfacing System, which introduced a host of problems to the patients who had the system implanted. More than 93,000 patients have been affected.
In August 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. about its ASR Hip Resurfacing System. Reports from around the globe of the systems failing within five years of being implanted began surfacing years ago, the Ohio product defect lawyers at Elk & Elk have learned. Symptoms included the bone around the replacement cracking and shavings from the metal-on-metal joints making contact over time, causing adverse reactions in certain patients. These replacement systems have since been recalled. They are no longer being produced by DePuy and patients who received them have been advised to consult with their doctors about what to do next.
This most recent round of complaints, revolving around likely design defects in DePuy’s Pinnacle Hip Replacement, are similar to the difficulties described by patients who received the ASR Hip Resurfacing System: Intense pain, hip implant dislocation, inability to move around freely, instability and having trouble walking or even standing. These complications have lead to premature device failure, requiring many patients to be subjected to more hip revision surgery than would have been necessary, had an appropriately-functioning device been implanted to begin with.
