Accutane pulled from the market – linked to inflammatory bowel Disease, Crohn’s Disease and Colitis

The Ohio Accutane attorneys at Elk & Elk can protect your rights.

As anyone with severe acne can likely agree, suffering through a painful and unattractive skin condition is embarrassing at best. At worst, it may cause pain, temporary and even permanent scarring.

So when a new miracle drug came onto the anti-acne scene in the early 1980’s under the name Accutane (generically, isotretinoin) many physicians and patients were happy there was a new means to combat painfully severe acne.

Other pharmaceutical companies have produced isotretinoin preparations under various brand names, including: Roaccutane ( Hoffman-La Roche ; simply Accutane before July 2009), Amnesteem ( Mylan ), Claravis ( Barr ), Clarus (PremPharm), Decutan ( Actavis ), Isotane (Pacific Pharmaceuticals), Izotek (BlauFarma), Oratane (Genepharm Australasia), ISOTRET (Liva Healthcare Ltd.) or Sotret ( Ranbaxy ), while topical isotretinoin is most commonly marketed under the trade names Isotrex or Isotrexin (Stiefel). Each of these brand-name drugs contain the same isotretinoin linked to serious adverse reactions.

As the years passed and more and more people began taking Accutane, serious side effects began appearing in those patients. As with any drug linked to significant adverse reactions, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration initiated a voluntary adverse side effects reporting program.

Some of the complications connected with the use of Accutane include:

If you, a loved one or someone you know has experienced any adverse side effects after beginning an Accutane or Isotretinoin regimen, you may be entitled to compensation for pain, suffering, loss of income and possibly any of a list of hardships caused by this dangerous drug.
