AVEA® ventilators part of Class I recall for risk of serious health consequences and even death

The previously recalled CareFusion AVEA ventilators have been reclassified as a Class I action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because of a high risk of serious adverse health consequences or death. If you or a loved one experienced an adverse reaction with an AVEA ventilator, contact the Ohio product defect lawyers at Elk & Elk today.

The recall includes all AVEA ventilators and parts that were manufactured between March 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011. Affected AVEA ventilators may produce a false high peak alarm, which initiates audio and visual alarms and the opening of the safety and ventilation valves. When this occurs, the ventilator stops working and no breaths are delivered, allowing the patient to breathe from room air and activating the safety valve alarm. If the patient does not receive another form of ventilation by a medical provider, he or she can suffer serious health consequences or even death.

If you or a loved suffered injuries or death as a result of a malfunctioning AVEA ventilator, get in touch with the dedicated Ohio product recall attorneys at Elk & Elk today. We have the experience and resources to hold the negligent manufacturer accountable for your pain and suffering and help you get the compensation you deserve.

CareFusion initiated a voluntary recall of AVEA ventilators in September 2011 to alert consumers of the risks associated with the medical devices. By December, CareFusion had received 94 reports of faulty ventilators. The FDA reclassified the action as a Class I recall, which is the most serious type of recall.

AVEA ventilators are used in hospitals and medical facilities. They are designed to provide breathing support for the care of neonatal through adult patients. CareFusion said in a release that they determined the cause of the problem and are working on correcting the hardware on the affected ventilators.
